GE Vernova has signed an agreement with Powerica to supply 28 units of its 3.8 MW–154m onshore wind turbines for the 100 MW Botad Wind Farm in Gujarat, strengthening its presence in India’s rapidly expanding renewable energy sector.
The project marks the first deployment of GE Vernova’s 3.8 MW “workhorse” wind turbine in the Indian market, representing a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to broaden its onshore wind energy portfolio in the country. The Botad project was awarded to Powerica through a competitive power purchase agreement (PPA) auction conducted by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL).
Turbine deliveries for the project are scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026. Once operational, the wind farm is expected to contribute to Gujarat’s renewable energy capacity and support India’s clean energy transition goals.
In a further boost to its India operations, GE Vernova has received certification from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and has been included in the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) for wind turbines. Inclusion in the ALMM is a key regulatory requirement for participation in India’s wind power market.
The project will be supported by GE Vernova’s manufacturing facility in Pune, which is being scaled to achieve an annual production capacity of up to 1,500 MW. The facility is expected to play a vital role in strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities, supporting local supply chains, and advancing the government’s push for increased renewable energy deployment through indigenous production.
